I first stepped foot in Fountain Street Church two decades ago, hoping to find answers to my questions and doubts about West Michigan and the direction of the world. But, instead, I found community, comfort and inspiration in knowing that the questions are the point. Run away from any place or person claiming to have all the answers. Surround yourself with those bold enough to keep asking the big questions.

I fell in love with the people. It’s the fact that we are all on our own path, we have our own past and our own challenges but we have a shared sense of love, justice and compassion for the greater good. We are a unique group of people with differing views and beliefs, but we come together to grow and make the world better.

My husband Fred and I have been members of FSC for over 50 years. Our three children attended Character School. We have been through many changes and are always gaining new knowledge and perspectives. This church lets you grow and learn at your own pace, encourages different opinions, is always there for help if needed, and allows you to just be whoever you are. The pulpit, the music, the surroundings, and the members fill you and give you peace.

Fountain Street Church is one of the best churches I’ve ever visited! In the heart of downtown they offer everything from yoga classes to AA meetings to church services. This is a socially conscious church and engaged in advocacy. Affirming of all community members, I think it would be incredibly difficult to not feel welcomed here.

This is an inclusive church for people who think. You are not asked to follow any particular creed — you are welcome to choose your own path. Fountain Street draws from the Christian tradition and the collective wisdom of humanity, including all faiths, toward changing the world for the better. The minister serves at the pleasure of the congregation, and is free to preach their message as they deem appropriate.
