Building a Community of Service
Volunteers at FSC are dedicated to building a community of mutual support and service. Striking a balance between giving and receiving is key, not only to personal happiness, but to community health as well. Thankfully, FSC has an amazing number of individuals who are ready and willing to give their time for the benefit of our Church community. But, of course, they cannot do this alone. They need a network of supporters and fellow volunteers to lean back on when times get too tough and tasks too heavy.
As we approach the holiday season, let's remember to serve together. Whether you give an hour or forty, you are essential to sustaining a culture of community and service. We need you as we reach out into our community to help those who are in need of support during these cold months!
Stop by to check out our new Volunteer Station opposite the Church Office by the stairway - very cool! Wired lockers for your valuables, check-in and check-out station, continued updated information, and more.
Returning Volunteers - be sure to complete a 2014 Volunteer Registration Form by checking the "returning" box and noting any changes and what you are planning to get involved in this year, and we'll get your volunteer badges ready A.S.A.P.!
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
Heartside Ministries Volunteer Luncheon - Friday, December 6, 2013, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Our District Leaders have generously offered to prepare a Luncheon for volunteers at Heartside Ministries. Volunteers willing to help prepare food are much appreciated! Please let Jennifer Kinne know if you are interested in volunteering.
Shoeboxes for Shelter - Sunday, December 8, 2013, from 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m., the FSC Character School needs help putting together shoeboxes for families in the Grand Rapids community. These shoeboxes are delivered to needy families during the holidays. We also need help in the week leading up to December 8th to sort all items!
Elf Project - The Social Action Committee needs help puttting together and delivering Christmas baskets for families in Grand Rapids. Baskets will be delivered by volunteers on the Sunday before Christmas. If you are interested or need information, please contact Cheryl Mellblom-Pierce at (616) 498-7690.
Stressed to Blessed Workshop - Sunday, January 19, 2014: Volunteering is a hard job. Do you sometimes feel isolated? Like you have too much passion and devotion, but too little support? We want to help! On Sunday, January 19th, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in Room 109, we will be kicking off this year's Stressed to Blessed programming with a Workshop focused on creating our own "service journeys" and developing connections with fellow volunteers.
We Need You
There are so many ways to get plugged into the FSC community! If you are looking for further involvement, we have a few groups in need of new volunteers. Contact Jennifer Kinne if you find any of these opportunities compelling:
Districts - Districts bring FSC's Ministries into their communities. You belong to a District based on where you live. District Leaders are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to help organize, participate in, and/or support social activities and Service Projects.
Greeters - We want everyone to feel welcome at FSC on Sunday mornings. Greeters are the first people you see upon walking in the door, and they are leaned on as resources for members and visitors with questions about FSC. We are in need of some friendly volunteers who are willing to greet on Sundays.
Volunteer Management Team - Coordinating and supporting volunteers is a tough job here at FSC. With the number of volunteers coming in each day at FSC, we are in need of more members for the Volunteer Management Team. As a member of this team, you would assist the Volunteer Ministries Coordinator with communicating and supporting FSC volunteers. From event planning to article writing, this is a rewarding volunteer opportunity that offers flexibility and a chance to use your creativity!
